So, after being down for a week with this crud that seems to be going around that everyone has had or has I'm still a sniffling ball of disease. But I finally got around to finishing some of my recent illustrations. I have the bad habit of starting several illustration sketches at once then having to back and add the color in.
Bluebirds are one of my favorite birds and I LOVE them incorporated into nurseries. Don't you just love their little red breasts?! They're also a symbol of contentment, joy and happiness, three things no nursery should be without. I wanted to expand on some of my current bird watercolors with these little whimsical cuties. Stars often make an appearance in my work as they have here. There is just something about a star's bright energy and the hope they bring when you see them in the sky or in a piece of artwork.
I always sketch my work by hand then in this case I outlined my sketch with pen. In this piece I used a Prismacolor - Fine Line Marker 005. I also prefer non synthetic haired brushes for watercolor but that's just a personal preference. An illustration like this one can take me a few hours from sketch to completed painting.
This piece is also now available in my ETSY SHOP as a fine art print. You can customize it with a name and date to give as a gift or for your nursery wall.
